What’s hot for lips this summer?

Easy: intense colour combined with a laid-back attitude. With their toss-in-your-bag-and-go vibe, chunky lip pencils are perfect for a breezy summer-makeup routine. There are a slew of affordable jumbo crayons, from Revlon to NYC to Wet n Wild to Rimmel (shown). Rimmel’s Lasting Finish Colour Rush twistable crayons have a rich, creamy texture. Can’t decide which shade? Treat yourself to two or three from a palette of 14. (each $7, 2.5 g)

Got any summer-scent recommendations?

There’s a bit of Brazil-love happening in beauty these days. So, to stay in World Cup mode, and for a refreshing summer spritz, try Guerlain Limon Verde Aqua Allegoria eau de toilette ($67, 75 mL). Or splash on L’Occitane Au Brésil Vitória Régia (a giant water lily) Day Flower eau de cologne, shown at right ($42, 100 mL). Or, made for “hot summer days and long balmy evenings,” luscious Escada Born in Paradise eau de toilette combines pina colada-inspired pineapple and coconut milk with zesty watermelon, green apple and guava ($62, 50 mL). Guava also pops up in feminine fruity-floral Issey Miyake L’Eau D’Issey summer eau de toilette ($76, 100 mL). And “tingling Brazilian orange” juices up the scent-celebration of Brazil-and sports-in Adidas Get Ready! For Her ($22, $50 mL). Gooooooooaaaaaal!!!!!

I need help for summer frizz!

There’s plenty I can suggest. Frizz increases as humidity rises, and some products use dimethicone (a silicone) to create a water-resistant barrier; try Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Color Gloss Crème (a leave-in; $8, 150 mL). Or do a DIY keratin treatment: Tresemmé 7 Day Keratin Smooth System-with shampoo and conditioner (each $6, 266 mL), and a treatment ($8, 88 mL) that’s activated by your flat iron-is designed to keep hair frizz-resistant even after washing. There’s John Frieda Frizz Ease Unwind Curls Calming Crème, with a proprietary polymer that promises to keep your curls soft and “undone” ($11, 141 g). Argan oil protects from frizz while adding shine-for example, in Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Fortifying Shampoo and Conditioner (each $5, 384 mL).

The beauty industry has really gone nuts for coconut oil lately, and it’s a great frizz fighter. In Hydrating Coconut Oil & Shea Butter, Marc Anthony’s new line of hair-care products, the coconut oil provides moisture, and the shea butter helps protect the cuticle. Try the line’s sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner for smooth hair, body and shine (each $11, 250 mL).
