The App That’s Helping A-Listers Like Katherine Heigl Get in Shape

It took Katherine Heigl 14 months to get back into shape after giving birth to her son. Here’s how she did it.

Katherine Heigl’s had a rough go when it comes to her career

She went from America’s sweetheart on Grey’s Anatomy to one of the most-hated actresses in Hollywood after she dogged the program that made her a bona fide star.

Since then, she’s taken a small step away from the limelight, married her partner of 10+ years, Josh Kelley, adopted two adorable kids, and most recently had a third, biological child.

Now, with her kids growing up, Heigl is ready to get back to work.

Her youngest is 14 months old, which is how long Heigl says it took her to get back in shape. She shared a progress picture on Instagram on Monday with a long caption, explaining just how difficult the journey’s been. (Amen, sister.) But with a new job on the horizon and a beach vacation in the books, Heigl said she was motivated to try something new — specifically by a fellow mama’s journey.

Heigl didn’t enlist one of Hollywood’s uber expensive trainers or hire a personal chef. She downloaded an app: Sweat. The app, created by female trainers (including Kayla Itsines of BBG fame), combines quick 28-minute workouts with meal planning to help users achieve real results.

Burn major fat with this hardstyle kettlebell workout.

The exercise routines are divided into four different segments: at home (for those days you can’t get to the gym), gym, post-pregnancy and yoga. While the app requires a membership — either US $19.99/month or US $119/year — it comes with access to the workouts, meal plans and a forum where members of the Sweat community can come together to stay motivated.

If you’re not ready to commit, Sweat does offer a free newsletter, with fitness tips and tricks from the app’s founders and recipe ideas, and there are plenty of workouts on their Instagram accounts that you can follow too. (See Kayla Itsines and Kelsey Wells!)

You can catch Heigl’s brand new bangin’ bod on the next season of Suits.
