This cutting edge treatment is a perfect way to tone and tighten skin without any down time.

Looking for a way to tone and tighten problem areas or want to give yourself a little face-lift without surgery? Forma may be the thing you’re looking for.

In my quest to rehabilitate my skin, and try to make it look about five years younger, I’ve been undergoing various non-invasive treatments at one of the best med spas around, SpaMedica.

My motivation is probably what most women in their 30s, 40s and 50+ seek to achieve: healthier, younger looking skin.

Before I began these treatments, I noticed a big change in my skin. Not only did I have dry, uneven skin tone (hello, brown spots!), but I also noticed the appearance of fine lines around my eyes. After having a very detailed assessment from SpaMedica, I decided to undergo three types of treatments to obtain optimum results: IPL FotoFacial, Forma and Fractional 1540 (more on this last one next week).

This week, I’m reporting on Forma – Fractional Thermal Contraction.

It’s a great option because it’s suited for all skin types and is appropriate for those seeking non-invasive improvements to their skin. I like to think of it as a major workout for the face; it helps to lift, tone and tighten.

What is Forma?

Forma is a non-invasive procedure that uses radio frequency to target deep in the skin’s layers to improve skin elasticity and build collagen. Commonly treated areas on the face include the forehead, around the eyes (to target crow’s feet), upper eyelids, lower eyelids, nasolabial folds, jowls, smile lines and neck. Areas treated on the body include arms (to treat bat wings), abdomen, knees and any other areas that have loose skin.

How does it work?

Forma uses radio-frequency and heat to provide optimal skin contraction in the deep layers of your skin. Radio-frequency energy stimulates the formation of new collagen (the building blocks of your skin) and contracts the layers of your skin for an improved appearance in the skin’s surface.

What to expect

So far, I’ve had two Forma treatments on my face and they have both been incredibly positive. Before the aesthetician began my treatment, she applied a cool conductive gel and began to massage the wand/device over one side of my face, concentrating on the jowl, cheek and eye area. I immediately began to feel a hot sensation but nothing that was too uncomfortable. The aesthetician spent about 15 minutes massaging each side of my face. When it was done, she placed a cool towel on my face to wash away the gel and to soothe my skin. She then applied cream and sunscreen. I felt fresh and rejuvenated.

Overall, it’s a very calming procedure. Afterward, my face looked flushed as if I had just completed a workout. This lasted for about an hour. For a few hours after treatment my face felt slightly warm to the touch. This also faded after a few hours.

Having completed two IPL FotoFacials, two Forma treatments and one Fractional 1540 treatment to date, I can report that I’m starting to see a difference in my skin. It’s becoming more even and the redness I normally have in my cheeks has almost gone away. Another major improvement I’ve also noticed is the change in my skin’s texture. It’s incredibly soft, smooth and looks brighter (see a recent pciture below).

Stay tuned for my report on the Fractional 1540.
