Four common signs of aging skin that are harmless and easily removed, if you’re so inclined.

Skin tags

Skin tags are small, soft, flesh-coloured bits of extra skin that are most commonly seen in areas of friction such as the neck, armpits or around the groin. They are completely harmless. (Avoid these exercise mistakes that can actually make you look older.)

Seborrheic keratoses

Seborrheic keratoses are the most common non-cancerous skin growths people get starting in middle age. They’re waxy, warty, elevated bumps that can appear anywhere (usually on the face, torso or shoulders).

Cherry angiomas

Cherry angiomas are bright red bumps that appear anywhere on the skin. They’re actually a collection of blood vessels on the skin’s surface, which is why they appear red.

Sun spots

Sun spots, also called liver spots or age spots, are brown, flat spots on the face or the tops of the hands that appear after a lifetime of sun exposure. A dermatologist will look them over to make sure they’re normal. Be sure to always wear sunscreen! Skin cancer is one of the 10 most common types of cancer in Canada.
