Obviously being a professional dancer is no easy feat. In addition to spending hours in the dance studio and on the dance floor, Hough rounds out her workouts with regular yoga classes. Spending so much time being active requires eating the perfect mix of vitamins and nutrients to keep energy levels up.
Despite mostly sticking to a high-protein, low-carb diet, Hough swears she isn’t crazy when it comes to what she puts in her mouth, “I try to cut myself some slack if I’m being consistent with my nutrition and activity. If I am craving a piece of chocolate I go for something dark to satisfy the craving.”
There are two key components to Hough’s diet: Hydration and protein-packed meals. She keeps her body in tip-top shape by drinking four to six glasses of water per day, along with tea and seltzer water.
Her meals consist of low-fat protein (think chicken, fish and Greek yogurt) combined with a ton of fruits and vegetables (cucumber, spinach, hearts of palm, edamame and avocado).
To keep her sugar levels balanced throughout the day, Hough has a fruit-based smoothie for her mid-morning snack and an orange in the afternoon, after lunch.
